BETWEEN CHENINI AND DOUIRET, NIGHT IN A TROGLODYTE COTTAGE AND DESERT EXPLORATION AT KSAR GHILANE
Day 1: Tataouine, Ksar Ouled Soltane, Ksar Beni Barka, Guermassa, Chenini and Douiret.
After departing from Djerba, you will head to Tataouine, the heart of the Berber region. From there, you will visit Ksar Ouled Soltane, a historic Berber granary, and Ksar Beni Barka.
You will have lunch in Guermassa before visiting the picturesque village of Chenini.
From Chenini, you will set off on a two-hour hike through the Djebel Dahar to Douiret.
The evening will end with dinner and an overnight stay in a unique cave lodge, offering a rare opportunity to experience traditional Berber life.
Day 2: Ksar Ghilane, the desert oasis.
On the second day, you will head to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where you can discover the oasis, opt for a quad ride or camel ride (optional).
Lunch will be served in a restaurant at the foot of the dunes.
Then, you will take the road back to Djerba, where you will be dropped off at your place of stay.
This itinerary offers a mix of cultural discovery, hiking and relaxation in the oasis of Ksar Ghilane.
Ksar Ouled Soltane. Located southeast of Tataouine, is one of the most remarkable ksour in Tunisia.
This ksar has the particularity of having a second courtyard, dating of the 19th century, which extends the first one built around the 15th century.
It thus has a record number of 400 cells for storing food reserves, called ghorfas, which are spread over four or five levels.
Chenini. Very beautiful Berber village, perched on a ridge.
You will discover the troglodyte dwellings, dug in the rock.
Departure for 2 hours of walk through the hills of Djebel Dahar to reach the village of Douiret.
Douiret is divided into two parts: The old village, made up of troglodyte dwellings dug into the hills, and the new village located on the hillside.
The old village is made up of small dwellings, called ghiren (plural of ghar meaning cave), which bear the family name of their owner.
To the south of these oases the vegetation disappears and the Sahara begins.
As far as the eye can see stretch the dunes of the great eastern erg.
Ksar Ghilane. The southernmost Tunisian oasis and one of the gateways to the Tunisian Sahara desert, the oasis is fed by a hot spring.
TWO DAYS OF TREK BETWEEN CHENINI AND DOUIRET PROGRAM
Day 1: From Djerba to Douiret.

Trek to Douiret, two hours to reach the village of Douiret.

You will have free time to explore the oasis, and will have the option of opting for a quad or camel ride.

Return to Djerba:

After two days of adventure, you will return to your place of stay in Djerba in the late afternoon.
Remember, bring with you suitable clothing for the hike and for the desert climate, as well as sunscreen and enough water to hydrate yourself. Enjoy your excursion!
