FROM GABÈS TREK TO CHENINI AND THE DESERT TO KSAR GHILANE

Your adventure will begin with a departure from your place of stay in Gabes towards Tataouine.
Take advantage of the journey to admire the passing landscapes.

A coffee break will be welcome in Tataouine.

Your first stop will be the visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane, an impressive fortified granary dating from the 15th century.

Explore the many storage rooms and soak up the history of this unique place.


Then, you will go to Ksar Beni Barka, another remarkable ksar which testifies to the traditional architecture of the region.

For lunch, you will take a break in a quaint restaurant in the village of Guermassa. Enjoy a tasty meal and learn about the local cuisine.
The guided tour of the village of Chenini will be an opportunity to discover the daily life of the inhabitants and to explore the winding streets of the village.

Admire the traditional houses and soak up the authentic atmosphere of this place steeped in history.


Then, you will begin your 2-hour trek in the mountains of Djebel Dahar to reach the village of Douiret.
Walk through scenic trails and enjoy the natural beauty of the mountainous landscapes.


Once you arrive in Douiret, you will stay in a troglodyte house for the night.
Relax and enjoy the unique experience of sleeping in a traditional dwelling carved into the rock.
A delicious dinner will be served to end this day full of discoveries.

On the second day, after breakfast, you will explore the village of Douiret.
Discover its cultural heritage and admire the troglodyte houses which testify to the ancestral life of the inhabitants.

Then you will take the road towards Ksar Ghilane, either by track or by road depending on the season.
Take advantage of the journey to appreciate the desert landscapes that stretch out in front of you.

Once in Ksar Ghilane, you will have free time to explore the oasis and immerse yourself in its tranquility. If you wish, you can opt for a quad experience or a camel ride (optional) to discover the surroundings in an even more immersive way.
For lunch, you will enjoy a meal in a restaurant located at the foot of the dunes, where you can savor local specialties in an enchanting setting.
At the end of the afternoon, you will begin the return to your place of stay in Gabes, with memorable memories of your trek to Chenini and the desert of Ksar Ghilane.

  Day 1

  • Lunch break in a restaurant in the village of Guermassa.

  • Guided tour of the village of Chenini

  • Trek: 2 hours of walking in the mountain of Djebel Dahar, to reach the village of Douiret.

  • Installation and dinner in a troglodyte house.

  Day 2

  • Visit of the village of Douiret.

  • Departure for Ksar Ghilane by track or road, depending on the season.

  • Free time in the oasis, possibility of quad biking or a walk optional camel ride. 

  • Lunch in a restaurant at the foot of the dunes.

  • Free time in the oasis.

  • Return to your place of stay in Gabes around 5:30 p.m.
