From December 27 to 30, 2023, let yourself be carried away by the magic
of the Sahara on the occasion of the International Festival of the Sahara in Douz.
Since 1910 the festival has celebrated the rich Arabo-Berber heritage of
the region. Douz is the gateway to the Sahara. It's through her
that many cultures and generations of nomadsand conquerors passed through.
The Mrazigs tribe will welcome you with a rich and varied program that will allow you to better appreciate the different facets of Bedouin life. It is on a background made up of sand dunes that you will discover the traditions of the region; from traditional weddings to camel races and camel fights.
Festival-goers will have the opportunity to discover local art as rich as it is captivating with exhibitions, music performances and a fair
books and documentary screenings.
The freshness of winter will contrast with the gentle warmth of the sun
which shines on the emblematic tree of the region, the date palm.
During the four days of the festival, the Festival International de Douz,
invites you to discover the habits and customs of the Berber and Arab cultures.
The festival agenda will appeal to all tastes; lovers of arts, culture, music, sports, history, nature and even those looking for a haven of peace to meditate and enjoy majestic landscapes.

JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF THE SAHARA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
TO DOUZ FROM GABÈS
Take part in an unforgettable cultural journey and soak up local traditions during the vibrant and colorful celebration of the International Festival of the Sahara in Douz.
Day 1: Departure from Gabes to Douz
Your day starts early at 7:30am with a transfer from your place of stay in Gabès, in the direction of Douz. Upon arrival in Douz, you will have free time to explore this town, known as the "Gateway to the Sahara".
You will have lunch in a local restaurant, tasting the delights of Tunisian cuisine.
In the afternoon, you will attend the International Festival of the Sahara, a renowned cultural event that highlights the traditions of the desert, with camel races, music and dance performances, as well as skill competitions traditional.
After a day filled with excitement and culture, you will dine and spend the night in your choice of accommodation in Douz, be it a comfortable hotel or an authentic campsite.
Day 2: Discovery of Douz and Matmata
After breakfast, you will head to the city center of Douz to experience the morning entertainment.
Then, you will leave for Matmata via the charming Berber village of Tamezret.
In Tamezret, you will have the unique opportunity to have lunch with the locals, tasting authentic local cuisine and sharing stories with the locals.
Then, you will visit a troglodyte house in Matmata, known to be a setting of the famous movie "Star Wars".
It is a truly unique experience that will give you an insight into local life and the cultural heritage of the region.
At the end of the afternoon, you will be dropped off at your place of stay in Gabès, taking with you precious memories and a deeper appreciation of the culture of the Sahara.
