A NIGHT IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT IN KSAR GHILANE

FROM DJERBA

A NIGHT IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT TO KSAR GHILANE
2 DAYS EXCURSION FROM DJERBA

We will pick you up at 7:30 am, in front of your place of stay in Djerba, then leave for Ksar Ghilane via the ancient Roman road.

During our journey, admire the superb semi-desert landscapes of the Berber region. We will offer you flexible stops to capture these magnificent scenes in photographs and to take breaks as needed.

Our first destination will be Sebkhet el Melah, a salt lake with surprisingly variable hues.

Then we will explore the ksar Oued Soltane, famous for being the setting for some Star Wars scenes.

Before lunch, we will take a guided tour of the picturesque Berber village of Chenini, which is prettily perched on a hill.

For lunch, we will go to a local restaurant in Guermassa.

After having eaten our fill, we will head for Ksar Ghilane.

Here, the arid landscape gradually turns into a desert of ocher sand.

In Ksar Ghilane, you will have the opportunity to do a ride on the back of  dromedary for €15/h, or a quad tour for €30/h.

These activities will be payable directly on site.

After a coffee break and a moment of relaxation in the oasis, we will embark in the 4X4 to reach our Saharan camp, which is 20 km in the desert south of Ksar Ghilane.

The camp offers all the necessary comfort and is organized around a restaurant-bar. It has Saharan tents, and the sanitary and kitchen facilities are worthy of a three-star hotel.

You will participate in the traditional ceremony of baking bread in the sand. After a tasty meal, you can stroll through the dunes, enjoy the silence of the desert and, weather permitting, admire the starry sky.

You will then spend the night in the Tunisian desert, under a private tent.

The next day, after breakfast and a moment of freedom in the desert, we will head to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses and for having been the setting for certain Star Wars scenes.

Lunch will be with the locals in the village of Tamezret.

After these two days of adventure and discovery, and the night in the Tunisian desert, we will return to Djerba and you will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the afternoon.
