3 DAYS TREK IN CHENINI AND THE DESERT IN KSAR GHILANE
WITH NIGHT IN A TROGLODYTIC COTTAGE AND IN THE SAHARIAN CAMP

Discover the authentic charm of the Berber region of Tataouine during this 3-day trek from Zarzis.
Immerse yourself in local history and culture while exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Tunisian desert.
 
We will leave from Zarzis towards Tataouine, the capital of the Berber region.
Our first stop will be the visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane, one of the many Berber granaries in the region. Then, we will discover the Ksar Beni Barka before having lunch in a restaurant in Guermassa.
After lunch, we will visit the hilltop village of Chenini, famous for its traditional Berber architecture.
From Chenini, we will begin a 2-hour hike in the Djebel Dahar to reach the village of Douiret. We will dine and spend the night in a cave lodge, providing a unique and scenic experience.
 
On the second day, we will go to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane.
After visiting the oasis and free time to explore the area, we will have lunch in a restaurant located at the foot of the dunes.
Then, we will take a 4x4 to reach the Saharan camp, located 20 km south of Ksar Ghilane.
The camp offers all the necessary comfort, with Saharan tents, modern sanitary facilities and quality cuisine.
You will witness the baking ceremony of bread in the sand, a fascinating local tradition.
After a delicious dinner, you can walk through the dunes, enjoy the silence of the desert and admire the starry sky.
You will spend the night in your private tent, in harmony with the surrounding nature.

On the third day of our excursion, after a delicious continental breakfast, we will leave for Matmata, a village famous for its troglodyte dwellings.
The troglodyte houses of Matmata are carved into the sides of the mountain, surrounding a large central well. You will be fascinated by the unique architecture of these dwellings and the way in which they are integrated into the surrounding nature.
After this cultural discovery, we will have lunch with the locals, where
you will have the opportunity to taste a traditional meal prepared with care.
Continuing our return to Zarzis, we will make a stop at the village of Toujene. Nestled in the mountains of Djebel du Dahar, this Berber village offers a sumptuous landscape.
 
You will be enchanted by the authentic and preserved atmosphere of Toujene, where the Berber language is still spoken and ancestral traditions are respected.
Do not miss the magnificent kilims made by the women of the village, testifying to their artistic talent and their traditional know-how.
After exploring Toujene, we will drive back to Zarzis, where you will be dropped off at your place of stay.
 
This excursion will offer you a complete immersion in the Berber culture and the hidden treasures of the Tataouine region.
 
You will leave with unforgettable memories of these three days of adventure and discovery in the south of Tunisia.

TREK IN THE BERBER REGION OF TATAOUINE NIGHT IN A TROGLODYTE HOTEL
DISCOVERY OF THE DESERT IN KSAR GHILANE NIGHT IN THE DESERT
AT THE SAHARIAN CAMP - THREE-DAY TOUR

Day 1:

  • Pick up at your place of stay in Zarzis at 7:30 am.

  • Departure towards Tataouine by the Roman road.

  • Visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane, a magnificent Berber granary.

  • Visit of Ksar Beni Barka, another architectural marvel.

  • Lunch in a restaurant in the village of Guermassa.

  • Guided tour of the village of Chenini and 2 hour hike in the mountains to the village of Douiret.

  • Installation, dinner and night in a troglodyte lodge.

 
Day 2:

  • Visit the village of Douiret to discover its unique heritage.

  • Departure towards Ksar Ghilane by the track or the road depending on the season. Free time in the oasis to visit the places and bathe in the hot spring.

  • Optional: quad or camel ride.

  • Lunch in a restaurant located at the foot of the dunes.

  • Departure by the track towards the camp to spend the night under a private tent in the heart of the desert.

 

Day 3:

  • Departure for Matmata and visit of a troglodyte house at the inhabitant.

  • Visit the Berber museum to learn more about the local culture. Lunch at the inhabitant to taste the traditional specialties.

  • Visit of the village of Toujane, one of the largest Berber villages still inhabited.

  • Return to Zarzis and drop off at your place of stay or at the airport.
