ONE NIGHT IN THE TUNISIAN DESERT

Begin your trip with an early morning departure from your hotel in Zarzis. Appreciate the beauty of the semi-desert landscapes of the Berber region on your way to Ksar Ghilane, with stops at your convenience to take photos.
 
First visit the salt lake of Zarzis, a marvel of nature with changing colors.
Then we will explore the ksar Oued Soltane, famous for being the setting for some Star Wars scenes.
Continue your journey to Chenini, an ancient Berber village, then travel to Guermassa for a local lunch.
 
From there, the journey continues to Ksar Ghilane, where the stony desert gives way to ocher sand dunes. As an option, you can choose to take a camel ride or a quad ride in the dunes.
 
After a coffee break, you will drive by 4x4 to a comfortable Saharan camp, located 20 km south of Ksar Ghilane.
The camp, equipped with facilities comparable to a 3-star hotel, is organized around a restaurant-bar with traditional Saharan tents.
 
Enjoy the ceremony of baking bread in the sand, then after a tasty dinner, walk through the silent dunes and admire the starry sky (weather permitting) before spending the night in your private tent.

The next morning, after enjoying a delicious breakfast and enjoying a moment of freedom in the dunes, we will set sail for Matmata, an area famous for its troglodyte houses and for having served as the setting for some emblematic scenes of the Star Wars saga.

You will have the opportunity to explore these unique dwellings and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the film.

For lunch, we will go to the village of Tamezret, where you will be hosted by the locals.
You will have the opportunity to taste an authentic meal and discover the warmth of Tunisian hospitality.

After these two days rich in adventures and discoveries, we will return to Zarzis, where you will be dropped off at your hotel at the end of the afternoon.
You will be able to recall the wonderful memories of this excursion and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

 PROGRAM

Day 1

  • Departure at 7:30 am in 4x4 from your place of stay in Zarzis.

  • Photo break at the Sebkhet el Melah salt lake

  • Visit of the Tataouine market (If open).

  • Visit of Ksar Ouled Soltane

  • Guided tour of the Berber village of Chenini. 

  • Lunch in a restaurant in Guermassa.

  • Road to Ksar Ghilane, oasis surrounded by huge sand dunes.

  • Possibility of camel or quad rides (Optional).

  • Bathing in the hot spring at 32° (if you feel like it).

  • Departure by the track towards the Saharan camp for the night in the desert.

  • Installation, sunset over the desert, sand bread baking ceremony.

  • Dinner and overnight in the desert in private tents.

 

Day 2

  • Breakfast and free time in the desert dunes.

  • Departure for Matmata via Berber village of Tamezret.

  • Lunch at the inhabitant in Tamezret.

  • Visit of a troglodyte house and discovery of the lunar landscape offered by the region. 

  • Return to your place of stay in Zarzis at the end of the afternoon around 5:30 p.m.
