The filming of Star Wars films in Tunisia took place in southern Tunisia, in Tataouine, Tozeur and on the island of Djerba.
 

The main filming sites/locations are:

  • Ksar Ouled Soltane.

  • Ksar Hadada.

  • Ksar Medenine.

  • Matmata and the Sidi Idriss hotel.

  • Chenini for exterior landscape scenes.

Mostly scenes from the slave quarters on Tatooine were filmed here!


Matmata was also used as a natural setting for the Lars farm, where Luke was raised, it is now a hotel that can be visited.

Ksar Médenine, located in the city itself, as well as Ksar Ouled Soltane, were transformed by George Lucas into Tatooine's slave quarters.

Ksar Ouled Soltane is one of the best preserved ksour in the country and still remains relatively untouched by tourism.

Ksar Hadada also served as the setting for the slave quarters in Star Wars.
It was here that significant scenes were filmed, such as Anakin's arrival in the storm and Anakin's departure with Qui-Gon and their farewell to Shmi.

In the surroundings of Tozeur, scenes of Tatooine were also filmed in a life-size set made by the film crew and still standing today.

Tataouine in Tunisia and its surrounding ksour greatly inspired George Lucas for his Star Wars films. The city's very name, Tataouine, was a source of inspiration for the creation of the desert planet Tatooine.

In the Tataouine region, the ksour of Medenine, Ksar Ouled Soltane and Ksar Hadada served as authentic settings for the Star Wars films.

a day trip to the main filming sites of the famous saga films. This complete excursion includes all the sites filming in the Berber region of south-eastern Tunisia.

We will pick you up in front of your place of stay in Djerba early in the morning,
at 7:30 a.m., to begin our adventure on the planet Tatooine.

Our first stop will be at Medenine, where you can see the ksar which was used
as a setting for certain scenes in the film "La Phantom Menace".

Then we will head towards Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses,
and we will have the opportunity to visit theSidi Idriss hotel, which served
as a setting for the Lars farm in the film.

We will also go see theKsar Hadada, which was used to represent
the slave quarters of Mos Espa (in Episode I, "The Phantom Menace").

After a lunch break in a restaurant in Guermassa, we will continue our exploration with the guided tour of the village of Chenini, where you can discover the exterior landscapes which served as a backdrop to certain scenes of Star Wars.
 
Finally, we will end our excursion with a visit to the ksar Ouled Soltane, which represents one of the slave quarters of Tatooine (in Episode I). You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe by exploring this emblematic place.
